Welcome!

"I'm James, a professional music therapist and instrumental tutor based in the beautiful North coast of Devon."

James Tucker Profile

I work across the South West of England and I’m passionate about people.  It’s my mission to help clients thrive and flourish within their particular context.

All my lessons and music therapy sessions are tailored around the people I’m working with. One of the key qualities needed in my work is sensitivity, I believe that it goes a long way – not just in work and music, but in life too.

It’s a privilege to work with music, bringing it into people’s lives and situations through music lessons and music therapy sessions. If there’s any way I can help, do feel free to get in touch or have a look at my FAQs.

Therapy for Organizations

Services to schools, health and care settings.

As a music therapist I work in various care settings, including residential homes for the elderly and care settings for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. Music therapy is widely used to help manage the symptoms of dementia, helping to reduce anxiety, agitation, depression and social isolation. I provide group sessions, which encourage residents to share memories and communicate through familiar songs, or individual sessions, which can be used to help manage anxiety and agitation. I also provide services to both mainstream and special schools, working closely with the SENCo and other school staff to address the various educational, personal, social and emotional needs of each child through music therapy.

Instrumental Tuition

Instrumental Tuition

Guitar and piano lessons for all ages.

I offer a relaxed and enjoyable approach to learning the piano and guitar. Lessons are given from my home in Bratton Fleming (near Barnstaple) and parents are welcome to stay and enjoy a cup of tea during their children’s lessons. Although students are given the opportunity to take exams, I recognise that students might just want to learn without that pressure, so I offer a flexible approach tailored to the needs of each pupil.
